la petite url is a personal URL shortener. Using a standard WordPress (2.5+) installation, la petite url allows the user to create shortened, unique, permalinks to their content using a combination of lowercase, uppercase, and numeric characters, which originate from their own domain name. By default la petite url generates a 5-character combination of lowercase letters only, for ease of use in entering on a mobile device or handset. Which URL would you rather explain to a friend or new acquaintance in person?

I believe the answer is obvious. Additionally, by using la petite url instead of a shortening service like is.gd, you keep your OWN domain name in the URL, giving viewers of the link on social networking sites like Twitter important context. This isn’t a link to some unknown site, it is a link to your site.
As of version 1.02, la petite url supports the shorturl auto-discovery method. Version 1.5 additionally supports rel=”shortlink”.
How To Use la petite url
Installing la petite url is a breeze. Just download it, and copy the resulting folder to your WordPress plugins folder, then activate it in the normal way. Upon saving any post, a unique URL will be generated and show in the right-side sidebar of the Post or Page editor. Want to include a post’s shortened URL as a link on your site? la petite url provides a function called the_petite_url_link() for just such a use. Drop this in your blog’s theme and it will display a link using the shortened URL to your users.
Custom Short Domains
With la petite url version 1.5 and greater you can set your petite urls to use a different, possibly shorter, domain name that you control. I’ve put together a tutorial on how to do this.
