The 1977 Divergent League Baseball Postseason is here!

I haven’t talked about much about Divergent League (What is Divergent League?), the atemporal fantasy sports thing I run, here. My Patreon is usually kept up to date, but let’s get some cross-posting going on. Marketing 101.

The 1977 postseason has begun, and the White Sox, Yankees, Reds, and Pirates are vying for the coveted Bip Roberts Memorial Cup Even Though He’s Still Alive. We’re streaming games live every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday at 3:30pm PDT on Twitch. Join us!

Ooooh Yeeeeaah. DIG IT!

[ESPN’s Bill Simmons on the death of a man who, for many of us, typified pro wrestling in the 1980s][link]. Hulk Hogan was always more popular, but Macho *was* wrestling in a way Hogan could never touch.

Excerpts From The Book The NBA Doesn’t Want You To Read

[Salient chunks from Blowing the Whistle][link], by disgraced former NBA ref [Tim Donaghy][tim]. The guy obviously has an axe to grind, but the detail and name-dropping extent he goes to is pretty remarkable. This is gonna cause some serious shitstorms in the NBA.

*UPDATE*: As I was writing this, the book [was dropped by the publisher][dropped], due to the NBA threatening to sue the hell out of them.

John Madden Is Retiring

[Probably the single most visible ambassador of American football][link] is calling it quits after 50 years. A great coach, and a great announcer. Even if you didn’t like his style, you knew he cared a lot about the game.
